Celia Garbutt Resume

I began my art education in my late teens with a Foundation Course at Trent Polytechnic. I then completed a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Newport Art College, followed by a post-graduate year at Glasgow School of Art. After a year at Yorkshire Art Space I moved to the north-west Highlands where I have lived since 1981. My art practice has been varied, from early sculpture and performance to, most recently, painting in watercolour and acrylic. As well as other sources, my current work draws on early memories of the Derbyshire countryside where I grew up, and the landscape of my immediate environment in Lochbroom.

"Garbutt’s 'The Angel' and 'The Beacon' (both acrylic) are beautifully balanced and composed with complimentary abstract geometric and organic forms coupled with figurative elements. Her style is a fine combination of drawn, scraped and painted textures well balanced by colour and form". [Georgina Coburn in 'Northings' (Hi-Arts) 18/9/07]
